Our Heritage: A Legacy of Bath Stone
Nestled near Corsham in the heart of Wiltshire, Park Lane Quarry has been part of the Bath Stone story since the late 19th century. Our quarry’s history stretches back to the 1880s, when surface extraction gave way to a slope shaft and an extensive network of underground workings—spanning over three miles of passageways. For decades, this site supplied high-quality Bath Stone to some of the country’s most iconic buildings.
Although operations ceased in the 1960s as concrete became more widely adopted in construction, the legacy of the quarry remained intact. In 2013, Park Lane Bath Stone proudly brought the site back to life, reopening the mine and ushering in a new era of craftsmanship, sustainability, and investment in cutting-edge stone extraction technology.
A closer look at our History

Early Operations (1880s – 1960s)
Stone extraction began at Park Lane in the 1880s. With the development of underground workings via a slope shaft, the quarry quickly established itself as one of the most productive in the region. It remained in continuous operation until 1960, when production was paused.
World War II Interruption:
During World War II, Park Lane Quarry near Corsham in Wiltshire was requisitioned by the War Office. Despite this, the quarry remained unused throughout the war and did not contribute to wartime production. Following the war, limited work continued, but production eventually ceased in 1960, leading to the quarry being sealed

Revival and Reinvestment (2013–Present)
In 2013, Park Lane Bath Stone resumed quarrying operations, investing in a modern slope shaft and the latest extraction machinery—reviving a proud tradition of Bath Stone production. In line with our commitment to environmental stewardship, we implemented a bat conservation programme, designating a section of the mine for a resident bat colony and creating a dedicated “bat highway” for their safe passage.
Ongoing Development
Our commitment to excellence continues today. We’ve recently upgraded our fleet and installed new equipment, including a Fantini block saw, to enhance production and efficiency. We proudly supply high-quality Bath Stone blocks to architects, stonemasons, and restoration specialists across the UK.

Preserving the Miners’ Legacy
When the quarry closed in the 1960s, miners left behind tools, equipment, and remnants of daily life underground. We are actively preserving this heritage—once home to the quarry’s pit ponies.
